weekend recap

this past weekend ryan’s mom was in town visiting, so we hit up ikea (so much great stuff there right now…i need my new house to put things in!), the zoo, and a great italian place for dinner, and of course she got her share of henry cuddles in and watched him practice walking (i think he made it up to five quick steps!).

sunday i met up with my mom’s side of the family to make droby, a family slovak recipe of potato sausage, that my grandpa used to make. we made a double batch since it’s so much work, and there was several people to split it between. it was epic – 40 pounds of potatoes (that were peeled for an hour straight between four people) + 8 pounds of bacon + pork shoulder + onions. it all had to be ground together and mixed, then stuffed into casings (plus cooking). leave it to the men on hand to turn the hand crank grinder into electric with the help of a drill – probably saved us hours and bicep muscles.

that night henry had his leftover pasta, and let’s just say while he loved (like can’t stop laughing loved) making a huge mess, and it was adorable, he won’t be having spaghetti often because no thanks on the clean-up.

(all pictures unedited, as much as it pains me, since i’m trying to squeeze in a quick pinterest challenge project due wednesday).

did you have a good one? can you believe it’s may already?

weekend recap {easter}

the weather this past weekend was gloriously spring-like, finally, though it was just a tease apparently. we had some park fun to enjoy the weather, i made some easter treats and of course celebrated easter on sunday. easter was so much fun, and i can only imagine how much more fun it will be as he gets older. in the morning i set out the eggs i filled the night before (puffs, cheerios, raisins and a special few with a lucky charm marshmallow) and his basket for the ‘hunt’ (term very loosely used) and it was just so fun watching him ‘find’ the eggs, and pick out the treats inside  with his tiny little fingers. and when i pointed out his basket he went right for it, beelining for the container of puffs. he also seems to love the new toy i got him (zany zoo), which is validating since i thought about buying it for him for so long. while he liked the blown bubbles, he much preferred eating the bottle (of course). that afternoon we headed to my aunt and uncle’s house, where we simply enjoyed each others company and a delicious dinner. monday henry and i had a pajama day, and i think it’s the new tradition for the day after a holiday.

i’m seriously obsessed with those green pants (they are not the h&m ones from my easter prep post, but i actually bought these a while ago from old navy for the early summer, and sewed a couple darts in the waist so they would fit him. i didn’t forget about them per se, just the color i had bought them in; i was pleasantly surprised). he also wore ‘big kid’ pajamas for the first time over the weekend, and gosh, he just seems so old now.  it’s funny how something like pajamas can take your breath away because you see not your little baby but a little boy.

it was a lovely and magical easter. how was yours?

weekend recap

howdy! this post is a tad overdue. but since i actually did things, and took some pics, might as well still post.

friday we had our home inspection, which went well overall, no major issues, yay. saturday morning i attended a gorge baby shower of a friend (complete with a headband making station, candy station, chevron, ombre ruffles and stripey straws), and followed that up with my cousin’s wedding that night (when we had our first non-family babysitter. it went really well, henry was in good hands, but the price? geez. i don’t know how people ever go out without family nearby). let’s just say i had too much fun (why can’t babies understand hangovers and sleep in?). sunday i was in recovery mode, and henry enjoyed his bath with alllll his toys. and even though monday is not technically part of the weekend, or not even remotely close to being included in the weekend, i’m including some pics from our play date at the children’s museum, because they’re cute (the kids).

how’s was your weekend? only a couple days away from this easter weekend, when it might actually not be freezing – imagine that in march.

weekend recap {fall family fun}

fall family fun -  i love some alliteration. i also loved this past weekend. we finally had no obligations and planned some good old fashioned family time. after snuggles, naked jumparoo time and whatnot saturday, we hit up a pumpkin farm to take ridiculously cute photos of henry and buy some pumpkins (and we didn’t forget apple cider donuts and a caramel apple, either). then we went to ryan’s favorite place on earth, outback, where we enjoyed too much food while henry enjoyed the coasters. sunday we continued our family fest and enjoyed the gorgeous weather at the zoo. henry basically slept through it, but woke in time to take more ridiculously cute photos. along the way henry enjoyed his first big boy stroller ride and el ride – all while matching his mom in one of her favorite shirts :) (i’m sure he’ll look back and be so embarrassed, but i can’t help myself)

what didn’t happen was my to do list. my toilets are disgusting. a casserole didn’t get made. i have a half finished sewing project still sitting there, waiting. but what did happen is what matters. the memories we made.
