weekend recap

this past weekend ryan’s mom was in town visiting, so we hit up ikea (so much great stuff there right now…i need my new house to put things in!), the zoo, and a great italian place for dinner, and of course she got her share of henry cuddles in and watched him practice walking (i think he made it up to five quick steps!).

sunday i met up with my mom’s side of the family to make droby, a family slovak recipe of potato sausage, that my grandpa used to make. we made a double batch since it’s so much work, and there was several people to split it between. it was epic – 40 pounds of potatoes (that were peeled for an hour straight between four people) + 8 pounds of bacon + pork shoulder + onions. it all had to be ground together and mixed, then stuffed into casings (plus cooking). leave it to the men on hand to turn the hand crank grinder into electric with the help of a drill – probably saved us hours and bicep muscles.

that night henry had his leftover pasta, and let’s just say while he loved (like can’t stop laughing loved) making a huge mess, and it was adorable, he won’t be having spaghetti often because no thanks on the clean-up.

(all pictures unedited, as much as it pains me, since i’m trying to squeeze in a quick pinterest challenge project due wednesday).

did you have a good one? can you believe it’s may already?

weekend recap

it is finally spring here! hallelujah. it makes the weekend even more enjoyable. we took advantage of the weather with a picnic in a park (henry’s first!) with some friends and delicious tacos from big star (and henry seemed to prefer sticks…and his sweet potatoes covered in dirt). but not before meeting our friends’ beautiful, new baby girl, maron (and henry’s future wife – perfectly, exactly 10 months younger).  not much else to report, except some shopping for summer clothes for henry, lots of walks in the gorgeousness and bubble blowing when henry demands it. and! i started a project, an actual project! it is looking soooooooo good and i can’t wait to show you the results.

seriously – how adorable is maron? even though henry was born only 10 short months ago, i forgot how teeny tiny newborns are. even their cries are tiny and cute (now? not. so. much.). how was yours?

life lately

sorry for the radio silence. life’s just been happening. nothing special, nothing big, just regular old life. hanging out with my favorite men every day. some days are easier than others, some can be quite long. especially with this weather – what is up, mother nature?? the few nice days we have had we hit the park hard (lots of swinging pics). beck has been playing with henry more, and my heart bursts a little bit every time i hear henry squeal in delight while playing with him. i have also discovered the amazing world of kid’s tv shows – i don’t know what it is with them, but if i need henry to not come chasing me for five minutes, or to sit still while i trim his nails, or not throw a tantrum while i change his diaper – put on some sesame street, yo gabba or curious george and he is in a trance. call me a bad mom, whatever, i know he’s not supposed to watch tv, but for goodness sakes, sometimes i just want to make his dinner with more than one arm or without him dumping beck’s water bowl. things are moving forward with our new house, though the sellers just delayed closing by two weeks, which is now the end of may. that’s annoying since we wanted to get a few projects done there first before moving in (like restaining the floors, scraping the ceilings and painting), and now not everything will be able to get done probably.  so furniture – like the new couch we ordered (yay) – will have to be moved/covered now, ugh. but i hope to share some pics of the new digs in the upcoming weeks – so stayed tuned!

here’s just some pics from my phone and my big girl camera, when i actually pick it up (and when we actually have some sun) – aka a photo dump.

weekend recap {easter}

the weather this past weekend was gloriously spring-like, finally, though it was just a tease apparently. we had some park fun to enjoy the weather, i made some easter treats and of course celebrated easter on sunday. easter was so much fun, and i can only imagine how much more fun it will be as he gets older. in the morning i set out the eggs i filled the night before (puffs, cheerios, raisins and a special few with a lucky charm marshmallow) and his basket for the ‘hunt’ (term very loosely used) and it was just so fun watching him ‘find’ the eggs, and pick out the treats inside  with his tiny little fingers. and when i pointed out his basket he went right for it, beelining for the container of puffs. he also seems to love the new toy i got him (zany zoo), which is validating since i thought about buying it for him for so long. while he liked the blown bubbles, he much preferred eating the bottle (of course). that afternoon we headed to my aunt and uncle’s house, where we simply enjoyed each others company and a delicious dinner. monday henry and i had a pajama day, and i think it’s the new tradition for the day after a holiday.

i’m seriously obsessed with those green pants (they are not the h&m ones from my easter prep post, but i actually bought these a while ago from old navy for the early summer, and sewed a couple darts in the waist so they would fit him. i didn’t forget about them per se, just the color i had bought them in; i was pleasantly surprised). he also wore ‘big kid’ pajamas for the first time over the weekend, and gosh, he just seems so old now.  it’s funny how something like pajamas can take your breath away because you see not your little baby but a little boy.

it was a lovely and magical easter. how was yours?
